Some POS Terminals at Automated Fuel Dispensers (AFD) mishandle the transaction requests with some members using debit cards. Due to these ongoing issues (hardware, software, or security keys/certificates) the terminal is not reading the debit card properly resulting in the debit card being blocked for future use.
If you attempt to use the gas pump and receive a PIN error or the transaction was declined without the PIN prompt, please try one of the following:
- Move to a different pump, taking note of the pump number where you had the issue.
Not all pumps at the same station may have the same issue. Card readers could be different in each pump.
If similar error occurs at the second pump, do not attempt another PIN entry as this may block the card.
- Pay inside.
- Use contactless at gas pumps where possible.
Please be advised that if you have used an AFD resulting in your debit card being blocked (or not having worked), you will need to unblock your card before attempting to use the debit card at any other merchant location.
Members can unblock their debit cards by completing any transaction (query, withdrawal etc.) at any ATM using their correct PIN or by using the PINing device at our branch. Once unblocked, your card will once again work at merchant locations.
If a member then attempts to complete another AFD transaction, there is a potential that the card may be blocked again. If you have any questions about your ATM/debit card please contact our branch at 416-238-5606 ext 0 today!
