Fraudsters are targeting victims by placing fake ads in Google. The fraudsters hope you’ll click on it to think you’re going to login to your online CyberBanker. In reality, it is actually a fake website that looks very similar to the legitimate website you have used in the past. If you sign into what you think is your online CyberBanker account through this fraudulent website, the scammers will have access to your login information. Once scammers gain access they can change your password to lock you out. This can then lead to unauthorized e-Transfers taking place.
The best course of action is to remain vigilant and to educate yourself on what to look for to ensure you don’t fall victim to phishing attacks. Here are a few steps to follow:
- Bookmark our website (The Energy Credit Union) to ensure you’re logging in to the correct online banking – not a spoofed website created by scammers.
- When typing ‘Energy Credit Union’ into Google, ensure you’re clicking on the correct website – scammers are sneaky and sometimes they even claim the ad at the top of the page. The first result might not be the correct result!
- Check the domain in the browser to ensure the website is correct. Scammers often change a single letter or word to imitate a website.
- Sign up for our free account alerts. This will give you notifications either by text or email when activities occur on your account.
- Change your passwords often and don’t share them!
- Enroll in a credit monitoring service, such as Equifax and TransUnion.
