The Energy Credit Union was honored to be a proud sponsor of the inaugural Ajax Waterfront Race, held along the scenic shores of Lake Ontario. This exciting annual event brought together runners, families, and community members for a day of fitness, fun, and philanthropy—all in support of a vital cause.
Proceeds from the race—an impressive $23,000—will benefit Herizon House, a local crisis facility dedicated to providing safety, shelter, and support for women and children escaping domestic violence. Herizon House plays a critical role in our community, offering hope and resources to those in need during their most vulnerable moments.
Our very own Mark McDonald, Vice President of Business Intelligence, served as one of the Race Directors, helping to shape this inaugural event into a resounding success. Mark worked alongside a passionate team of volunteers and community leaders to ensure the race was not only well-organized but also deeply impactful for the cause it supports.
“It was an incredible honor to help organize the Ajax Waterfront Race and see our community come together for such an important cause. Supporting Herizon House aligns perfectly with The Energy Credit Union’s commitment to community giving and our ESG initiatives. We believe in creating positive social impact, and this event was a meaningful way to make a difference,” says Mark McDonald.
The Energy Credit Union has a long-standing tradition of supporting local initiatives that strengthen communities and promote social responsibility. Sponsoring the Ajax Waterfront Race reflects our dedication to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles—fostering healthier communities, encouraging active lifestyles, and supporting organizations that provide essential services to those in need.
Diane Kocet, CEO added “Community is at the heart of everything we do at The Energy Credit Union. Sponsoring the Ajax Waterfront Race and supporting Herizon House reflects our values and our dedication to making a real difference in people’s lives. We are proud to stand with organizations that provide safety and hope, and we look forward to continuing to champion initiatives that strengthen our communities.”
This inaugural race marks the beginning of what promises to be an annual tradition of giving back and making a lasting impact. We are proud to stand alongside our members and neighbors in building a stronger, safer, and more connected community. We are looking forward to supporting the 2026 event, which will support Community Living – Pickering, Ajax and Whitby – who’s mission is to assist people who have intellectual disabilities and their families to lead the way in advancing inclusion in their own lives and in their communities—a cause we are proud to champion.
