March Is Fraud Prevention Month

March is Fraud Prevention Month, a national campaign focused on helping Canadians understand how to recognize, reject, and report fraud. The Canadian Anti‑Fraud Centre (CAFC) plays a key role in this awareness effort by collecting information on fraud and identity theft and sharing insight into the trends affecting Canadians.

The CAFC notes that scammers continue to impersonate trusted organizations … including the CAFC itself. These fraudsters may claim they are investigating a previous incident or offering help recovering lost funds, then attempt to obtain personal or financial information. A critical reminder from the CAFC: they do not contact individuals to request money. Staying aware of this common tactic helps reduce the risk of falling victim.

Fraud Prevention Month reminds us that awareness is a powerful tool. By staying informed, asking questions, and sharing information with others, credit union members can help strengthen the safety and trust that keep our communities resilient. Check out our website and newsletter for more information on how to keep yourself safe. If you suspect that you are a victim of fraud please report it as soon as possible.
