Did you know scammers can get into your account in a variety of ways?
Two of the most popular are phishing (where members may inadvertently disclose their login information) and brute force attacks. A brute force attack is when cyber criminals use automated tools to attempt thousands of combinations of user-names and passwords, in an attempt to gain access. Accounts with complex passwords have a greater security against these types of attacks.
Energy CU members should keep an eye on accounts for unusual activity, update passwords frequently, keep software up to date, and contact our offices if they see suspicious activity.
In the meantime we are working on a couple items that will make our members even more secure. We will be launching recaptcha (selecting images that correspond with words to verify a real person is behind the computer).
We are also working on bring back our transactional email alerts. When we converted to our new banking system this functionality was not available from our new provider. We are currently working on getting this product back up and running for our members as soon as possible. If you would like to be added to a “waiting list” to receive a call or email once this product is back online please call our offices at 416-238-5606 today!
