In case you didn’t know, Canada Post is resetting passwords for all online customer accounts, starting on October 16, 2019. Customers with online accounts will receive an automated email from Canada Post that includes the steps to reset their password.
They stated that there has not been a cyber-attack or hack of the Canada Post network but they are investigating a report that some customer information may have been compromised in 2017.
The cause appears to be that login and password credentials stolen in external privacy breaches unrelated to Canada Post were used to access individual Canada Post accounts. This is possible when users reuse their credentials on several websites to avoid having to remember different passwords. This is a perfect example of why you should have different passwords for each of your online accounts and why you should change your passwords often.
