August Rush Review

Released November 21, 2007

It may not have come in top 5 position on the weekend box office, but still a great movie to take a loved one to see. Although the movie lacked development in several of the characters relationships, the music and quality of the story made it difficult to really care. Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers play two musicians, one classical and one rock, who have a brief love affair that results in the birth of a child. However, circumstances tear each apart, and tear Russell from her unborn child. Eleven years later, the young boy is desperatly seeking his parents, in which he feels that he is connected to them through music. The young lad is able to hear music where ever he goes, from streetcleaners, to honking cars, to police sirens–he hears the music in everything. Along his journey to find his parents, the young boy is taken in by Robin Williams, a shady character that makes Fagin from Oliver Twist look honourable. Through his work with Williams, the young boy soon learns his potential as a musical prodigy. Terrence Howard also pops up as a social worker working for the state of New York. Starring Kerri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Terrence Howard, Robin Williams and introducing Freddie Highmore. And that’s Whatz Slammin at the box office. 3.5/5
