Alvin and the Chipmunks Review

Released December 14, 2007

It was one of the larger grossing movies for this past weekend, so I decided to try something different for a change, and see an animated film. I remember watching the show way back when I was a young child. I would come home to the babysitters and watch the television classic. For me though, the movie was unable to match the quality of the animated TV version. Perhaps I had higher hopes for this version, hopes that would not be met. It was a cute film for the family and for younger children, but for an adult, it just wasn’t as great as some other animated films that are currently playing. I think the young kids liked the voices of the chipmunks more than the movie itself. For those that don’t remember the 80’s and early 90’s, Alvin and the Chipmunks if about a strugling musician, who comes into contact with talking, singing chipmunks. The three chipmunks and the musician work together to find success, while struggling to live together through their perceived notion of how one should act and behave. Alvin, the troublemaker, is the leader of the group, who knows what buttons of Dave the musicians to push. Simon, the intellect, tries to keep the group in order, through reasoning and logic. Theodore, the–um, one that eats a lot, apparently fell out of a tree as an enfant, which explains his personality. If you are looking for a cute film for the family, one with little storyline, but lots of cheap predictable laughs for the kids, than this would be the film to see. And that’s Whatz Slammin at the Box Office. 2/5.
